"Winter Carnival Craft Fair"
A good time was had by all who attended the Winter Carnival Craft Fair, loads of people visited the SPCA booth to support the animals. Everyone loved Freddy the furry kitten, the kids had a ball with the fish pond and people purchased pet treats and toys from our table. The volunteers had loads of fun working at the booth and talking to the people who stopped by. (Thanks Guys without you these fundraisers would not be possible, your hard work and dedication does not go unnoticed and the animals thank you too!!!)

"Pasadena Academy" (students helping the SPCA)
My name is Nicole Wicks, I am a grade eight student at Pasadena Academy. I became interested in doing a fundraiser for the SPCA after browsing their web page, and noticing that they had a sign asking if anybody had ideas for fundraising and other things.
I decided to start a fundraiser at my school, so that I could help the SPCA. We collected donations on a honors night at school, money from pizza day, and also class donations. I also arranged for a teachers vs. students dodgeball game. All students had to pay a dollar to play, and my vice principal said for every time a student hit him and got him out, he would donate an extra dollar to the SPCA.
All of these efforts raised a total of $300.00, plus a box full of food, treats and blankets. I am very proud of everybody who helped, it goes to prove we can make a difference.
All of this could not have been done without my passion for animals, and the loving memory of my dog who was put to sleep in October. We adopted my dog from the SPCA, and this is my way to say Thank You to the SPCA for helping me discover my love of animals, and for giving me such a great life with mine.

Celebrating Amanda's Life
On Dec 18, 2009 we held a Celebration of Amanda (Forward)'s Life. It was a gathering of Amanda's friends who all got together for fun, drink and food. Gail (Amanda's Mom) was helped by her husband Donny, Krista Fleming, Paul Quilty, the Edgars and of course Johnathon (Amanda's brother) to get this Celebration underway. As Amanda was a lover of all creatures, big and small, Krista put donation sheets at both Shoppers Drugmarts as well as Marks Workwear House. With those donations and those collected at the Celebration of Amanda's Life party we raised over $500 for the SPCA. There was no better way to show how much we loved her. Amanda was most definitely there in spirit mingling among her guests and having fun.

She had a total of 16 children attend her party, they had lots of fun playing games like dog bone balance, dog freeze dance (dancing to 'Who let the dogs out' and 'Ain't nothin but a hound dog'). We also had games where we had pictures of the shelter animals and the children had to try and match their name with their picture. This was a really nice way that the children could see some of the animals they were helping. The kids had lots of fun eating hotdogs, dog and cat cupcakes, baked breadsticks shaped as knotted rawhide and dog bone-shaped sugar cookies as well as many other goodies. The kids also liked the idea of eating snacks in the new stainless steel dog bowl dishes which we later donated to the SPCA. The children brought in many bags of dog and cat food, toys, treats, food bowls and accessories for the shelter instead of bringing a gift for Rachel. Many of the children also dressed up as their favorite animal as we suggested on her invitations! Rachel thoroughly enjoyed her party and she is now gearing up to collect sponsors for her second dog walk coming up in June. I have also attached a picture of Rachel, with her older sister Michaela, her 1 yr old Bishon-terrier mix named Misty, 7 yr old golden retriever named Dollar, as well as her 19yr old cat named Snowball.

puppies when me and my family bought the presents to the SPCA. I hope

Ongoing Activities :
The Bay of Islands SPCA would not exist without the help of its regular volunteers or the generous donations we receive from private and corporate citizens. Some of our ongoing fundraising activities include: If you are an artist or a craftsperson, as well as an animal lover, we are looking for items to sell at our information tables. This can include paintings, ceramics, ornaments, knitted items, toys etc. - preferably but not necessarily with an animal theme. Call the shelter at 785-2745 if you'd like to help us out.
Pennies for Pets -- money collected in our wooden cat boxes found in various locations around town
Wish Boxes -- items such as pet food, cleaning products etc. collected in boxes located at Dominion, More For Less Foods, Humber Veterinary Clinic,Sobey's and FoodLand Pasadena.Cash Register Tapes -- tapes from Dominion and Sobeys are collected. For every $500 submitted, we receive $1. Please collect your tapes and drop them off at the shelter, or send them to us at the address on our main page
Recycling -- just tell Nova Recycling or Westlane Recyclables that the money from your recyclables are to be donated to the SPCA
Wal-Mart Bulletin Board -- check out our bulletin board in Wal-Mart's pet department for SPCA news and photos of animals now available at the shelter for adoption
Sponsor a Pet Program -- Sponsor a pet in order to have them spayed or neutered. Click here for more information
Pound Rescue -- Over the years, many shelter animals have come from the City Pound. Since January 2002 we have been making weekly visits to the pound. If we have room at the shelter and if there is an adoptable animal at the pound, we will take it and try to get it a good home. The shelter volunteer checks the animals for adoptability. Some of the things we look for are temperament, behavior, health and age - older animals are unfortunately that much harder to find homes for. Since appearance is very subjective, that doesn't enter into our decision. Click here to see a larger picture.
